Eduardo Paes pledges hospital completion and transit expansion

Rio de Janeiro gubernatorial candidate Eduardo Paes has announced several infrastructure and service expansion plans during his campaign. Paes pledged to complete the Hospital da Mãe in São Gonçalo, a project that has been stalled since 2013. He intends to transform the facility into a high-complexity maternity ward and expand the ‘Cegonha Carioca’ prenatal and newborn care program throughout the state.

Regarding transportation, Paes proposed expanding the BRT system to include Seropédica and Itaguaí, alongside the reactivation of the passenger railway line in Itaguaí. He also committed to constructing Metro Line 3, which would connect São Gonçalo, Niterói, and Itaboraí to the capital via a subaquatic tunnel under Guanabara Bay, seeking federal funding for the project.

In separate political developments, former governor Anthony Garotinho denied rumors of his withdrawal from the race, asserting that his candidacy for the governorship remains active despite legal challenges regarding his eligibility.
