Eduardo Paes proposes security reforms for Rio de Janeiro governorship
Eduardo Paes, the PSD candidate for the governorship of Rio de Janeiro, has outlined key campaign strategies and policy proposals. A central pillar of his platform is the recreation of the Public Security Secretariat. Paes intends for this department to have unified command and financial autonomy for the Civil and Military police forces, aiming to prevent political interference in the appointment of commanders and police chiefs.
Paes has characterized the current political climate in Rio de Janeiro as an unprecedented institutional crisis, accusing previous state administrations of ties to corruption and criminal organizations. He also positioned himself against opponent Douglas Ruas, linking him to former state political groups.
In an effort to appeal to the state's significant evangelical electorate, Paes is promoting the ‘Terra Prometida’ project in Santa Cruz. This R$ 190 million themed park will feature attractions inspired by biblical narratives, such as the Garden of Eden and the Red Sea. Additionally, Paes highlighted his previous administration's focus on economic recovery and education as foundations for his gubernatorial bid.
