Eduardo Paes vows Rio state to follow Macaé's development model

Eduardo Paes, the licensed mayor of Rio de Janeiro and pre‑candidate for the state governorship, said the future Rio state should mirror the development path of Macaé. Speaking at the 213th anniversary ceremony of the city, Paes highlighted Macaé’s use of oil‑royalty revenues, continuity of public policies across administrations, and its role as a strategic hub for projects such as a proposed national fertilizer plant.

He recalled his early political ties to the municipality, praised former mayor Silvio Lopes, and argued that sustained administrative continuity—regardless of party affiliation—has enabled Macaé to achieve sustainable growth. Paes positioned the city as a model for the entire state, suggesting it could become a “locomotive” for Rio’s future development.
