Eduardo Pedrosa opposes CLDF re-election proposal

District Deputy Eduardo Pedrosa (União Brasil) has expressed opposition to a proposed amendment to the Organic Law of the Federal District (PELO nº 22/2026), which seeks to allow a third consecutive term for members of the Legislative Chamber of the Federal District (CLDF) Board of Directors.

Pedrosa argued that the initiative lacks legal security, noting that the Supreme Federal Court (STF) has established precedents restricting successive re-elections in legislative assemblies. He warned that approving the measure could lead to judicial challenges that would undermine the institution's credibility.

The proposal, authored by Deputy Pastor Daniel de Castro (PP) and signed by 14 lawmakers, aims to remove the current limitation of a single re-election. While the current president of the CLDF, Wellington Luiz (MDB), is a potential beneficiary of the change, he recently withdrew his signature from the proposal to allow himself to preside over the session discussing the matter.

To pass, the amendment requires at least 15 votes in two rounds of voting. Despite his opposition to the project, Pedrosa stated he maintains a friendly relationship with Wellington Luiz and remains a potential candidate for the CLDF presidency for the 2027–2028 biennium, pending consensus with colleagues and Governor Celina Leão.
