Education budget trends show divergence in Paraguay and Misiones

Regional education budgets for 2027 show divergent trends in Paraguay and Argentina. In Paraguay, the Ministry of Education and Sciences (MEC) is projected to receive G. 12.75 trillion, representing a nominal increase of 0.5% compared to 2026. This allocation accounts for approximately 14.5% of the Central Administration's budget, remaining below the 20% threshold recommended by social organizations. Notably, funding for physical infrastructure is expected to decrease by 1.8%, dropping to G. 37.5 billion.

In the Misiones province of Argentina, Education Minister Ramiro Aranda announced a 54% increase in the education budget for 2027. This surge is largely driven by the province's need to absorb costs previously covered by national funding, specifically for school infrastructure and dining halls. National funding for school feeding programs is expected to drop below 30%, forcing the province to redirect resources to maintain services such as free student transport and the distribution of 600,000 books.
