Education challenges in Brazil highlight gaps in math and financial literacy

Recent data reveals significant educational gaps among Brazilian students. According to the 2026 Brazilian Yearbook of Basic Education, only 5.4% of high school seniors in Acre demonstrate adequate learning in Mathematics, while 61.2% fall below the basic level. This indicates widespread difficulty in solving problems involving equations, functions, and geometric relationships.

In contrast, Portuguese language proficiency shows higher rates, with 32.1% of students in the same region achieving adequate learning levels.

Additionally, PISA 2022 data indicates that 45% of 15-year-old students in Brazil lack basic financial literacy, compared to an OECD average of 18%. This deficiency means nearly half of these youths can only recognize common financial products and make simple consumption decisions. Experts suggest that parental involvement and practical experience are key to improving these outcomes.
