Education inspector arrested in İzmir bribery operation
An education inspector, identified as O. M., has been arrested in İzmir, Turkey, after being caught red-handed accepting a 300,000 TL bribe. The incident involved an administrative investigation into the financial affairs of a school principal in the Bayındır district.
According to reports, the inspector initially demanded 500,000 TL to ensure the investigation into school revenues and financial transactions would yield a positive report. The amount was later negotiated down to 300,000 TL. To avoid suspicion, the inspector requested that the cash be delivered inside a fig box.
The school principal reported the solicitation to the İzmir Provincial Directorate of National Education. Following a coordinated effort between the directorate and the İzmir Police Department's Financial Crimes Branch, a sting operation was conducted at a cafe in the Bayraklı district. Police, who had recorded the serial numbers of the banknotes, apprehended the inspector as he received the fig box containing the money. The suspect was subsequently remanded in custody by a criminal judge.
