Education Minister Daniel Valtchev Eyes Independent Presidential Run

Daniel Valtchev, former Bulgarian minister of education, told bTV that he is seriously weighing a bid for the presidency as an independent civil candidate, emphasising that he would not be tied to any political party. He said, "I am not hiding the fact; I am considering it," and added that a successful presidential project must be a "pure civil candidacy, not a masked party candidate," possibly launched through an initiative committee.

Valtchev warned that the current government will face significant internal challenges this autumn and criticised the pervasive distrust of institutions and the elite in Bulgarian society, calling for voters to choose a person with character and a clear biography rather than a party‑controlled figure.
