Education Minister Janevska defends school construction delays in Skopje
North Macedonian Minister of Education and Science Vesna Janevska and SDSM MP Sanja Lukarevska are in a political dispute regarding construction delays at Kiro Gligorov Primary School in the Centar municipality.
Lukarevska criticized the Ministry for the delay, noting that while an agreement was reached in February, construction only began on August 7. This has forced hundreds of students to begin the school year with online classes.
Minister Janevska responded by stating that the delay was caused by receiving municipal approval only at the end of July. She emphasized that the project aims to expand school capacity to allow for single-shift classes. Janevska also addressed broader educational optimization, citing UNICEF and World Bank data regarding a surplus of teachers and classes in the country, noting that 430 classes were merged this year without any teacher losing their position.
