Education ministries in Peru and Dominican Republic manage infrastructure and contract issues
In Peru, the Ministry of Education (Minedu) has canceled a contract held by the National Program of Educational Infrastructure (Pronied) for the rental of a warehouse and archive facility in Ate. The decision follows allegations of overpricing; while the contract stipulated a monthly payment of US$53,424, the property was listed on a real estate portal for US$42,000. Additionally, officials noted the facility failed to meet required standards for cleanliness, maintenance, and the secure storage of institutional assets. Minedu has suspended a US$108,000 advance payment and announced it will pursue legal action for potential collusion and incompatible negotiations.
In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Education (MINERD) announced that 2,000 million pesos have been allocated to settle outstanding debts with school infrastructure contractors. Vice Minister Ayacx Mercedes stated that payments will be distributed between September and December of this year to professionals whose projects have been verified by an external commission. Separately, the National Council of Education approved an ordinance regulating electronic device use in classrooms and established a new educational policy regarding artificial intelligence and digital competencies.
