Education Secretary Linda McMahon promotes anti-DEI agenda
U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon is advocating for a shift in educational funding, moving resources away from diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives toward core academic fundamentals. During a visit to American Preparatory Academy in Utah, McMahon highlighted the importance of patriotic education and national unity in civics instruction.
In a speech regarding the Trump administration's education agenda, McMahon cited the case of a Connecticut high school graduate who sued her district after graduating without being able to read or write. McMahon attributed such failures to excessive spending on non-teaching staff and DEI-focused professional development. She stated that the administration has redirected billions of dollars from these programs to focus on reading, writing, mathematics, and critical thinking.
While McMahon promotes these changes, Connecticut education leaders point to significant budget deficits and a lack of taxable property as primary drivers of district challenges. Additionally, McMahon’s proposal to condition grant money on programs promoting patriotic principles has faced opposition from Democratic lawmakers, who express concern over the endorsement of specific historical interpretations.
