Education sectors address declining test scores and AI integration

Educational institutions and observers are addressing the dual challenges of declining standardized test results and the rapid integration of artificial intelligence in classrooms. In Argentina, recent PISA and Operativo Aprender results indicate a decline in reading, mathematics, and science proficiency among students compared to previous years.

In response to the rise of generative AI, such as ChatGPT, academic leaders are emphasizing the importance of human-centric pedagogy. Joserra Díez, Dean of the Faculty of Education at the University of the Basque Country (EHU), argues that teaching remains an irreplaceable human process. To mitigate the risk of cognitive delegation to machines, the faculty has established a diagnostic commission on AI and is prioritizing oral examinations, reading, and cooperative learning to preserve essential critical thinking skills.
