Educational adjustments reported in Argentina and Colombia

In Salta, Argentina, the Ministry of Education has officially acknowledged that approximately 60 schools have assigned teachers but no enrolled students. Alejandro Williams Becker, Secretary of Educational Management, attributed this situation to declining enrollment caused by low birth rates. He stated that these educational units exist by provincial decree, and the Ministry reabsorbs and redistributes these teaching positions according to educational service needs.

In Colombia, the government has issued Legislative Decree 1388 to adjust the academic calendar for official schools in regions affected by an earthquake. The measure follows a state of economic, social, and ecological emergency. The adjustment impacts 5,309 educational sites across 47 territories and 16 departments, including Antioquia, Valle del Cauca, and Santander, affecting approximately 1,147,369 students. The government noted that standard organizational mechanisms are insufficient to address the exceptional circumstances caused by the disaster.
