Italy implements new youth policies and digital safety initiatives

The Italian Senate has officially approved a new bill regarding youth policies and the Universal Civil Service. Promoted by Minister Andrea Abodi, the legislation aims to create a cohesive national framework for younger generations, integrating training, employment, and access to credit. The plan includes the National Youth Card and a permanent Observatory to monitor youth conditions.

In parallel, digital safety and responsible technology use have become central themes in Italian civic life. Approximately 250 students, acting as Moige Young Ambassadors, met with parliamentary groups and digital security experts to discuss challenges such as artificial intelligence in schools, fake news, data protection, and cyberbullying.

Local initiatives are also emerging to combat excessive screen time. In Sardinia, a pilot program titled ‘A tavola senza schermi’ (At the table without screens) encourages families to put away devices during restaurant meals, providing activity kits to foster real-world interaction. Similarly, municipalities like Venegono and Pinerolo have established ‘Digital Pacts’ to create community-wide guidelines for healthy smartphone and device usage among children.
