Educational and safety initiatives address substance use in Mallorca and Mexico
In Inca, Mallorca, security and emergency services held an event featuring workshops designed to raise awareness about the effects of alcohol and drug consumption. Participants used specialized glasses that simulate impairment to experience how everyday tasks, such as walking in a straight line or picking up keys, become difficult under the influence. The event also showcased the Advanced Command Unit truck, a mobile control center used during large-scale emergencies, and featured demonstrations by Civil Protection volunteers from several municipalities.
In Mexico, the Colegio de Ciencias y Humanidades (CCH) has launched the ‘Mochila Segura desde Casa’ (Safe Backpack from Home) campaign. Directed by María Patricia García Pavón, the initiative encourages parents to assist in preventing risks and ensuring student safety. The campaign responds to concerns regarding the consumption of alcohol and other substances on campus. Authorities noted challenges in detecting substances, such as alcohol hidden in thermoses or delivered via apps, emphasizing that safety requires shared responsibility between the institution and families.
