Dominican Republic Ministry of Education releases teacher performance results
The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Education (MINERD) has presented the results of the 2025-2026 Teacher Performance Evaluation to the National Council of Education. The assessment, the first of its kind in nearly a decade, involved 122,919 teachers, achieving a national coverage of 91.75%.
While the overall evaluation recorded an average score of 85.4 points, the Professional Performance Exercise—a specific component designed to measure how teachers apply knowledge to real-world classroom situations—showed significant challenges. In this specific exercise, 75.1% of the 110,320 participating teachers received scores categorized as 'insufficient' or 'regular.' Specifically, 58.4% were rated as insufficient and 16.7% as regular.
In response to these findings, MINERD announced a new plan focused on continuous professional training and pedagogical support. The ministry aims to implement differentiated strategies tailored to the specific needs and contexts identified during the evaluation to strengthen professional competencies.
