Educational authorities implement leadership changes and school closures in Colombia and Dominican Republic
In Colombia, the Departmental Education Secretariat has provisionally removed Benjamín Alemán Iguarán from his position as rector of the María Auxiliadora Institution in Cuestecita, La Guajira. The decision follows an investigation into alleged unjustified absences and administrative difficulties. Luz Amanda Pinto Prada, the academic coordinator, has been appointed as the acting rector. A technical commission will inspect the school's academic processes and financial balances to ensure educational continuity.
In the Dominican Republic, the Ministry of Education's School Infrastructure Directorate has ordered the temporary closure of the Virginia Fidelina Matos “Las Monjas” Educational Center in Yamasá. A technical inspection revealed that the building's infrastructure poses safety risks to students and staff. Authorities noted that construction work had been initiated at the site without the Ministry's knowledge or authorization. Students have been relocated to the Francisco Antonio del Rosario Educational Center while a final technical assessment is conducted.
