Educational challenges and personalized learning research in Hungary

Modern educators face evolving challenges compared to two decades ago, driven by the rise of social media, smartphones, and artificial intelligence in classrooms. While there is a perception of increased student disrespect, OECD 2024 TALIS data suggests that classroom discipline and student behavior remain significant stress factors for teachers globally, though they do not necessarily indicate a decline in behavior compared to previous years.

In Hungary, the University of Pécs, supported by UniCredit Bank, is conducting research to improve personalized education. Led by János Steklács, the study involves fifth-grade students from Baranya County to develop diagnostic methods for reading comprehension. The research utilizes eye-tracking technology to monitor visual reading, cognitive factors, and memory. By analyzing thirteen different areas, researchers aim to create personalized profiles to support students with varying learning needs, emphasizing that early intervention is key to effective development.
