Educational inclusion and learning disorders discussed in Italy
Experts and professionals are addressing the complexities of learning disabilities and neurodivergence within the Italian educational and social systems.
In Potenza, the University of Basilicata will host a conference titled ‘From Word to Person: Language Disorders, SLD, and Adult Psychopathology’ on October 24, 2026. The event, organized by the Aid section of Potenza for Dyslexia Awareness Month, focuses on the life-span perspective of Specific Learning Disorders (SLD), examining how difficulties in reading, writing, and calculation impact individuals from childhood through adulthood, including their professional lives and mental health.
In Rome, neuropedagogist Cristiana Maria Giungato presented a report to the Italian Senate regarding PANS and PANDAS. Her intervention focused on school inclusion and the necessity of personalized learning strategies for children and adolescents facing these challenges. Giungato introduced the O.S.E.R.V.A. model—an operational guide designed to help educators observe, systematize, explore, recognize, value, and activate personalized educational responses—to ensure behavioral difficulties are not misidentified as mere disciplinary issues.
