Santa Fe Senate prohibits informal parking attendant activity

The Senate of Santa Fe has passed a law prohibiting the informal parking attendant activity, commonly known as ‘cuidacoches’ or ‘trapitos’, throughout the province. The legislation modifies the provincial Code of Coexistence to regulate the offering of parking, guarding, cleaning, or washing services on public roads without proper authorization.

Sanctions for violators include community service ranging from 2 to 10 days, and potential detention for up to 15 days. In cases of recidivism, penalties may increase to between 10 and 20 days of arrest. The law also introduces more severe penalties for those acting as part of a criminal organization, with sentences potentially increasing fourfold if organizers or coordinators are identified.

The prohibition applies to paid parking zones, areas near mass events, and sensitive locations such as schools, banks, and public buildings. It also covers nighttime hours. Municipalities are responsible for enforcement, with police assistance available through the relevant Ministry.
