Educational initiatives promote anti-racist and gender equity in Brazil

Educational initiatives in Brazil are focusing on implementing anti-racist and gender-equitable practices within school systems. In Timon, the municipal government is conducting continuing education for school managers, coordinators, and history teachers. Led by professor Flávio Berutti, the training aims to decolonize curricula and integrate Afro-Brazilian and Indigenous history into classroom planning and daily school life.

Simultaneously, the Geledés – Instituto da Mulher Negra has launched the e-book ‘Método Geledés: Caderno de Gestão Educacional e Escolar para a Equidade Racial e de Gênero’. This resource provides municipalities with a framework for creating robust anti-racist educational policies. The method focuses on four key pillars: intersectional data production, hands-on training, institutionalization of action plans, and advocacy, aiming to move equity from a theoretical topic to a structural element of organizational practice.
