Educational institutions implement community-based learning projects
Educational institutions in Argentina and Chile are implementing community-focused pedagogical projects to enhance learning through local culture and family involvement.
In Argentina, the Jardín de Infantes ‘Niña María’ at Colegio Nuestra Señora de Fátima has launched ‘Mate Club’. This initiative uses the traditional mate ritual to create a space for dialogue between teachers and families. The program aims to integrate parents into the teaching process, helping them understand the methodologies used in early childhood education, such as mathematics and problem-solving strategies.
In Chile, the Universidad San Sebastián (USS) has partnered with the Liceo de Aplicación in Santiago for the ‘Guardianes del ayer, ciudadanos de hoy’ project. This collaborative effort uses the school’s historical heritage, archives, and physical spaces as pedagogical tools. By linking academic content to the students' immediate environment and history, the project seeks to address academic performance and curricular fragmentation through situated learning.
