Educational institutions implement infrastructure and energy measures
In Colombia, the Arauca Governorate has announced an investment exceeding $7.412 billion pesos to consolidate the Universidad Industrial de Santander (UIS) campus in Saravena. The funds, part of Work Contract No. 485 of 2026, will be used to build sports facilities, pedestrian paths, green areas, and essential utility networks, including electrical, rainwater, and hydro-sanitary systems. The project aims to provide a comprehensive environment for students beyond academic classrooms.
In Ecuador, the Universidad de Especialidades Espíritu Santo (UEES) in Samborondón has implemented an energy reduction plan to combat national power generation deficits. To avoid suspending in-person classes, the university is restricting electricity use by turning off public signage, reducing lighting in common areas, and limiting the use of escalators and air conditioning. The institution has also set specific temperature controls and reduced the operation of ornamental water features to manage its electrical load.
