Educational leaders in Dominican Republic and Peru report resource shortages

Educational leaders in the Dominican Republic and Peru are reporting significant shortages of essential resources for students.

In Cabral, Dominican Republic, the president of the Association of Dominican Teachers (ADP) has called on the Ministry of Education to address a lack of potable water, cleaning supplies, and academic materials. The shortage is reportedly impacting school hygiene and making it difficult to fulfill curriculum requirements. Additionally, the ADP noted that schools are struggling to meet commitments to suppliers due to these funding gaps and is planning community-led protest actions to demand infrastructure repairs and fund transfers.

In the Loreto region of Peru, directors of student residential institutions have denounced the failure to deliver hygiene, cleaning, and first-aid kits budgeted for the current school year. These delays affect students from rural and impoverished communities who rely on these boarding facilities. Despite ministerial resolutions approving these supplies earlier in the year, educators report that requests made since March have gone unanswered.
