Educational reforms announced in USK and Zagreb scholarship updates

In the Una-Sana Canton (USK), the Pedagogical Institute is introducing a new approach to monitoring student achievements and organizing school competitions. Haris Ćoralić, director of the institute, emphasized the need for continuous professional development and a shift toward evaluating students based on competency development and the quality of the teaching process rather than just grades.

The institute has presented the competition calendar for the 2026/2027 school year and a new rulebook for student competitions. Additionally, the implementation of the LQ skills program for secondary schools was discussed, alongside an analysis of student learning and behavior results.

In Zagreb, the City Assembly has adopted new rules for municipal scholarships for students and pupils. The changes aim to simplify the process by introducing digital contract signing, which is expected to eliminate the administrative burden of processing approximately 3,200 annual contracts.

Key updates in Zagreb include revised scoring criteria that now incorporate artistic and cultural achievements alongside sports, and an increase in the income threshold for socio-economic scholarships from 80% to 100% of the budget base. Approximately 1,400 scholarships are expected to be awarded this year, with monthly amounts of 380 euros for pupils and 520 euros for students.
