Educational schedules adjusted in Arequipa and Tacna

Educational authorities in the Peruvian regions of Arequipa and Tacna have announced significant changes to school schedules due to upcoming elections and climate risks.

In Arequipa, the Regional Education Management office announced that schools serving as polling stations for the regional and municipal elections on October 4, 2026, will transition to virtual or remote learning. This measure applies to the afternoon shift on Friday, October 2, and the full day on Monday, October 5, as facilities are handed over to the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and subsequently returned.

In Tacna, regional director Javier Quispe confirmed that the 2026 school year will end exceptionally on December 11. This rescheduling is a preventive measure against risks associated with the El Niño phenomenon. To ensure educational continuity, management weeks originally scheduled for mid-October will be converted into instructional weeks, with management activities moved to late December.
