Educational scholarship programs announced for students in Rwanda and South Africa

The University of Rwanda has announced the 2026 Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program. This fully funded undergraduate initiative targets academically talented young Africans who face social or economic barriers. Eligible applicants include citizens of Rwanda or other African nations, refugees, and displaced persons. The program supports students across seven colleges and six campuses, focusing on developing leadership potential and community engagement.

In South Africa, the Motsepe Foundation is accepting applications for its 2027 Bursary Programme. The program provides comprehensive financial assistance to academically deserving students with demonstrated financial need. Supported fields of study include Science, Technology, Engineering, Accounting, Mathematics, Humanities, Music, and Law. Beyond tuition, the bursary covers accommodation, books, stationery, laptops, and meal allowances.
