Educational seminars held in Brazil focus on environmental resilience and adult learning

Two distinct educational events are taking place in Brazil, focusing on environmental sustainability and specialized teaching methodologies.

The Biennial Environmental Education Seminar, organized by the Pró-Sinos Consortium through the Permanent Environmental Education Program (PPEA), will be held at the IFSul Sapucaia do Sul campus on November 17, 2025. The seminar, themed ‘Environmental Education as a Pillar for Resilient and Sustainable Cities’, aims to address urban challenges such as flooding, water pollution, and environmental degradation. The event will feature panels and lectures on disaster prevention, basic sanitation, and community engagement, alongside awards for literary and sanitation-focused educational initiatives.

In Avaré, the Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP) hosted the EJA-EPT Meeting, a three-day event dedicated to Youth and Adult Education integrated with Professional and Technological Education. The gathering brought together students, researchers, and officials to discuss strengthening this educational modality. Discussions highlighted the need to address issues such as racism and ageism within the curriculum, emphasizing that adult education should not merely be a reduced version of regular schooling. While the number of EJA students in Brazil has declined from approximately 2 million in 2016 to 1.3 million in 2025, federal investment in the sector has increased significantly, rising from R$ 21 million in 2019 to approximately R$ 146 million in 2025.
