Moldova and Romania announce major education and scholarship updates

In Moldova, the government has announced significant educational reforms set for 2027. Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun stated that a new national curriculum will emphasize practical competencies over theory. Key changes include introducing informatics as early as the 5th grade and implementing a mathematics curriculum aligned with the Estonian model. Additionally, technological education will focus on robotics and engineering using tools like 3D printers.

In Romania, a debate regarding social scholarships for students has emerged. Following a proposal by the Ministry of Education to eliminate these scholarships during school holidays, interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan indicated that the government would likely maintain the current system. Bolojan noted that while social allowances are monthly supports, scholarships are specifically intended to support participation in educational activities, and the final legislative form may be adjusted to prevent social impact.
