Educational updates reported in Benin and Cameroon

In Benin, Minister of Secondary Education Clément Koutchadé conducted a tour of the Ouémé and Plateau departments to prepare for the 2026-2027 academic year. During visits to schools in Porto-Novo and Pobè, stakeholders raised concerns regarding human resource shortages, overcrowded classrooms, a lack of libraries, and the need for better working conditions and equipment for teachers. The Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to improving the educational sector and addressing these persistent challenges.

In Cameroon, the South-West region reported a 10% to 12% increase in school attendance for the 2026/2027 academic year. Governor Bernard Okalia Bilai noted that 7,873 secondary students and 3,000 basic education students returned to classes. This rise in enrollment follows mobilization efforts by administrative authorities, teachers, and parents to ensure equitable access to education within the region.
