Educational workshops held in Fukuoka and Tokyo
Various educational workshops and experiential learning programs were held in Japan focusing on local nature and food culture.
In Fukuoka, the Chikugo River Children's Curator Training Course 2026 held its first session at the Chikugo River Disaster Prevention Facility Kurumeus. Led by an expert from the Entomological Society of Japan, elementary and junior high school students participated in an insect collection activity along the Chikugo River embankments. Participants identified 41 species of insects, including various dragonflies and beetles, using field guides to prepare for future presentations.
In Tokyo, the Tokyo Kombu Association conducted a food education class at the Toyama Library in Shinjuku. The session provided elementary school students and their families with insights into different varieties of kombu seaweed harvested from various regions of Hokkaido, such as Rishiri, Rausu, and Hidaka. The program included demonstrations of traditional fishing tools, tasting sessions to compare flavors, and instructions on how to prepare dashi broth.
