Educators advocate for critical thinking and pedagogical autonomy

During a recent conference organized by the Consello da Cultura Galega, educators and academics discussed the evolving landscape of modern education. Dolores Vilavedra, president of the Consello da Cultura Galega, emphasized the need to rethink educational methods in response to rapid social, technological, and legislative changes, including the impact of artificial intelligence and digital screens on student attention.

The discussions focused on academic freedom and the risks associated with imposing neutrality criteria. Almudena Alonso, a professor at the University of Vigo, advocated for cooperative learning as a means to foster democratic values, solidarity, and equity. She noted that peer interaction facilitates idea exchange and reflection without the asymmetry often present in teacher-student relationships.
