Educators in Arizona and New Jersey face sexual misconduct charges

Two separate incidents involving educators accused of sexual misconduct against minors have been reported in the United States.

In Arizona, Genesis Alvarado, a 27-year-old former digital photography teacher at San Luis High School, has been charged with three felonies, including sexual conduct with a minor. The Yuma Union High School District terminated Alvarado’s employment on August 7 following an investigation initiated after students reported suspicious behavior. Law enforcement officials stated they believe there may be other victims and are seeking additional information.

In New Jersey, 72-year-old private music teacher John Bendzak faces charges of second-degree endangering the welfare of a child and fourth-degree stalking. Prosecutors allege that between late June and mid-July, Bendzak engaged in inappropriate discussions regarding sexual activity and attempted unwanted physical contact with a 17-year-old student during private lessons in West Milford. Investigators recovered text messages as part of the probe conducted by the Passaic County Special Victims Unit.
