Educators in Brazil recognized for impactful inclusive teaching
In Brazil, educators are receiving recognition for their impactful work with students facing social and physical challenges.
In Paranaguá, teacher Maria Aparecida da Silveira Raimundo was honored after a former student, Enzo Rafael, shared his progress years later. Enzo, who was extremely shy and struggled to interact with peers during his first year of elementary school, has since overcome those barriers and now participates in a marching band. His mother credited the teacher’s encouragement and patience for helping him gain the confidence to engage in new experiences.
In Porto Velho, physical educator Júlio César Barbosa gained social media attention for his work with Luiz, a boy living with encephalopathy. A video captured the moment Barbosa assisted Luiz in successfully rising from his wheelchair during a supervised activity. Barbosa emphasized the importance of individualized strategies and adapted physical education to promote inclusion and autonomy for children with specific developmental needs.
