Edutus University seeks to host major international robotics championships in Hungary

Edutus University is pursuing bids to bring major international robotics competitions to Hungary. The institution aims to host the European Open Championship in 2029 and the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) world finals in 2031. Preliminary discussions with international organizers are already underway.

The initiative follows a period of significant growth and success for Hungarian robotics. The number of teams participating in domestic WRO competitions has increased by nearly 80 percent over the last two years. Additionally, Hungarian teams have secured multiple podium finishes at recent global events, including gold and silver medals in various categories.

Currently, Edutus University is playing a key role in the WRO European Open Championship held in Zagreb. As a primary organizing partner, the university is providing 20 Hungarian judges to assist in the technical management of the event, which features 220 teams from approximately 50 countries. The university has maintained a partnership with the Croatian Robotics Federation (HROBOS) since 2019.
