Edward Hopper exhibition opens at Palazzo Blu in Pisa

Palazzo Blu in Pisa is hosting “Edward Hopper: New York e dintorni,” a monographic exhibition dedicated to the influential American master of the early twentieth century. Curated by Barbara Haskell and Caroline Webb, the exhibition features over 150 works, including paintings, watercolors, drawings, engravings, and archival materials.

The exhibition is organized into five sections: “Career Beginnings,” “Paris,” “New York,” “New England,” and “Jo and Edward.” The collection traces Hopper’s creative journey, highlighting how various locations shaped his artistic vision. It explores his early training at the New York School of Art, the influence of the Ashcan School, and his experiences in Paris.

Through his depictions of modern life, Hopper captures the intimacy of ordinary people, often emphasizing themes of isolation, solitude, and alienation. The works showcase his unique use of light, sharp geometries, and psychological tension, ranging from his early urban realism to his observations of the New England landscape.
