Edwin Cerrillo names Cuauhtémoc Blanco as his idol

Edwin Cerrillo, a new midfielder for Club América for the Apertura 2026 season, has named legendary player Cuauhtémoc Blanco as his idol. The 25-year-old Mexican-American midfielder, formerly of LA Galaxy, shared that his admiration for Blanco stems from his childhood, noting that his father was a devoted fan who frequently wore Blanco’s number 10 jersey.

Cerrillo also expressed his lifelong support for Club América, describing himself as a fan “from the cradle.” He recalled family gatherings centered around watching the team play. Cerrillo recently made his debut for the club during a Leagues Cup match against Austin.
