Edwin Díaz loses Dodgers closer role amid injury struggles

Edwin Díaz has been placed on the 15-day injured list by the Los Angeles Dodgers due to neck inflammation. This follows a difficult season for the veteran reliever, who previously missed time recovering from elbow surgery. Since returning from his initial injury stint, Díaz has struggled significantly, recording an 11.85 ERA and a 2.56 WHIP across 13.2 innings.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced that Díaz will not immediately reclaim the closer role upon his return. Instead, the team plans to use Tanner Scott as the primary closer while easing Díaz back into lower-pressure situations to rebuild his confidence.

Díaz expressed a positive outlook regarding the decision, stating, “I haven’t pitched good and Tanner Scott is doing a great job.” He noted his primary goal is to be ready to help the team during the upcoming playoffs.
