Edwin Josué Castellanos appointed Guatemala Minister of Environment

Edwin Josué Castellanos has assumed the role of Minister of Environment and Natural Resources in Guatemala. Castellanos brings 39 years of experience in environmental projects, including work on deforestation, water management, biodiversity, and climate change.

A former professor and researcher at Universidad del Valle de Guatemala, Castellanos has held several academic leadership positions, including Dean of the Institute of Investigations and director of the Center for Environmental and Biodiversity Studies. He also served as the Vice Minister of Natural Resources and Climate Change for the past two years.

His academic background includes a doctorate in Environmental Sciences from Indiana University and a master's degree in Analytical Chemistry from Michigan State University. As minister, his priorities include protecting the nation's natural heritage and developing solutions to address climate challenges.
