Edwin Sifuna challenges President Ruto over political claims and healthcare
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has intensified his political opposition to President William Ruto, challenging the President on several key issues including political sponsorship and healthcare efficacy.
Regarding political allegations, Sifuna criticized Ruto for failing to provide evidence for claims that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is funding opposition figures ahead of the 2027 general election. Sifuna noted that the President could not substantiate these claims beyond citing media reports.
On healthcare, Sifuna challenged Ruto to swear by the Bible that Kenyans no longer need to hold 'harambees' (community fundraisers) to pay medical bills. The Senator disputed the President's assertion that the Social Health Authority (SHA) is fully functional, citing instances where families had to raise funds to cover unpaid bills at hospitals, including Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital.
