Edwin Sifuna challenges Ruto over Dangote refinery transparency
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has challenged President William Ruto regarding the demand for public disclosure of documents related to the Dangote oil refinery deal in Lamu. Sifuna invoked Article 35 of the Kenyan Constitution, which guarantees citizens the right to access information held by the State and mandates that the State publish important information affecting the nation.
Sifuna argued that disclosing information on matters of national interest is a constitutional imperative rather than a matter of individual discretion. He criticized secretive government transactions, stating that the public should have access to major deals involving the State.
President Ruto previously alleged that the push to see the agreement between the government and the Dangote Group was part of an extortion scheme. The President claimed that certain individuals were attempting to subject investor Aliko Dangote to similar tactics that previously caused him to abandon plans for a cement factory in Kenya. Ruto vowed to protect the Sh2.2 trillion refinery investment.
