Edwin Sifuna secures tribunal orders over Linda Mwananchi name
Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and the Linda Mwananchi movement have secured preliminary orders from the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal regarding the use of the ‘Linda Mwananchi’ name. The Tribunal has barred the Registrar of Political Parties from registering the name, or any similar variation, for any other person or entity until the pending appeal is determined.
The ruling allows the Sifuna-led faction to reserve the name while the legal battle continues. Simultaneously, the Tribunal permitted the registration process for the Liberty National Democratic Alliance (LINDA) Party to proceed. Officials from the LINDA Party claim they have complied with all requirements and are awaiting their registration certificate, accusing the Sifuna faction of using similar symbols and identities to confuse supporters.
In addition to legal efforts, Sifuna’s camp is reportedly exploring alternative political platforms for the 2027 general elections. This includes potential negotiations to repurpose existing registered parties, such as the United Democratic Party (UDP), by changing their names, colors, and leadership to serve as a political vehicle if the legal dispute over the Linda Mwananchi name is not resolved in their favor.
