EdYouth report finds gaps in student academic ethics and AI literacy

A report by the student group EdYouth regarding the 108 Curriculum reveals that nearly one-quarter of students have not received formal education on academic ethics. The survey, which included 532 high school students, also found that approximately 50% of students are unfamiliar with the Ministry of Education’s guidelines regarding the use of generative AI.

Findings indicate that while students have a moderate understanding of the difference between citation and plagiarism, they lack knowledge regarding self-plagiarism and the definitions of authorship and responsibility. Regarding AI, about 40% of students disclose their use of AI in reports or presentations, while another 40% do not disclose it at all. EdYouth recommends integrating academic and AI ethics into core curricula and providing teachers with more instructional resources.

In response, the Ministry of Education stated that its talent cultivation direction for AI includes teaching students to recognize, utilize, and use AI responsibly, while focusing on human skills that AI cannot replace, such as critical thinking, empathy, and teamwork.
