Airport Rail Link extension talks underway in Thailand

Thailand’s Ministry of Transport is negotiating with Asia Era One, a CP Group subsidiary, to extend the operation of the Airport Rail Link (ARL) beyond its current contract expiration on September 30. The private operator has expressed willingness to continue services for an additional four months, potentially until the end of the year, provided certain conditions are met.

Asia Era One has proposed a monthly management fee of 60 million baht to cover utilities and operational costs, totaling approximately 240 million baht for the four-month extension. Key conditions for the extension include a requirement that the ARL operations remain separate from legal disputes regarding the main high-speed rail contract connecting three airports. The operator also stated it would cease services immediately if legal litigation or disputes arise.

Minister of Transport Pipat Ratchakitprakarn is meeting with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) and its board to finalize terms. If negotiations fail, the SRT is preparing to have one of its subsidiaries take over operations to ensure service continuity and maintain passenger confidence. The Secretary-General of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) noted that clarity regarding the broader high-speed rail contract is expected soon.
