EEOC proposes ending mandatory employer demographic reporting
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has proposed ending the requirement for large employers to report employee data regarding race, ethnicity, and sex. While the current system aims to detect discrimination, critics argue the rigid demographic categories can be misleading and incomplete.
Kenneth Marcus, CEO of the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, suggests that these categories can make certain groups, such as Jewish employees, virtually invisible in diversity reporting. Because Jewish identity encompasses religious, ethnic, and cultural dimensions that do not always align with standard racial boxes, antisemitism may go undetected by demographic data despite existing legal protections under Title VII.
