EEOC Sues KLLM Transport Services for Sex Discrimination in Driver Training
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit in the Northern District of Texas against KLLM Transport Services LLC and its subsidiary KLLM Driving Academy, Inc. The suit alleges the companies violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act by imposing sex‑based policies on female student drivers at training academies in Lancaster, Texas and Jackson, Mississippi. Discriminatory practices cited include denying single‑sex sleeping quarters, refusing to pay women who waited for female trainers, and requiring women who trained with male instructors to notify their spouses or partners.
Acting EEOC General Counsel Catherine Eschbach said, “Rather than provide the female student driver’s single‑sex sleeping quarters … the employer … treated women trainees worse than male trainees … unlawful disparate treatment.” EEOC Dallas District Office Director Travis Nicholson added, “Under federal law, all workers in the United States have a right to be given a fair opportunity to succeed based on their knowledge, skills and effort, not their sex.” The complaint seeks remedies for the alleged discrimination.
