EFCC in Enugu Arrests Car Dealer Chukwuebuka Ogbonna and Exec Gladys Egwuche Over Major Fraud Cases

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Enugu has arraigned car dealer Chukwuebuka Anacletus Ogbonna on four counts of fraud amounting to N15.4 million. Prosecutors allege he received the money to import three cars but failed to deliver them or return the funds. Ogbonna pleaded not guilty and was remanded in EFCC custody, with a bail hearing scheduled for July 2026.

In a separate case, EFCC charged Brass Engineering and Construction Nigeria Limited’s Group Managing Director, Egwuche Chinyere Gladys, with a $600,000 money‑laundering offence. The charge sheet says she and her company accepted twelve cash payments of $50,000 each for a granite stone‑crushing line, bypassing the banking system and exceeding the statutory threshold. Gladys also pleaded not guilty; the court granted her N200 million bail and adjourned the trial to November 2026.

Lagos State courts also convicted auto dealer Olusegun Lawal of stealing N30 million from HSLM Trust & Associates Ltd. After pleading guilty to an amended charge of stealing, Lawal received a three‑year prison sentence, a fine of N1.5 million, and an order to refund the full amount to the trust.
