EFCC arrests 15 people over illegal lithium processing in Ogun State
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 14 Chinese nationals and one Nigerian for allegedly operating four illegal lithium processing plants in the Ogere area of Ogun State.
The arrests were carried out by the commission’s Lagos Zonal Directorate 2 on Friday, October 23, following intelligence gathering and surveillance. During the operation, officials recovered several bags of lithium-bearing rocks, a trailer truck, and various electronic devices, including 18 mobile phones and four laptops.
The EFCC stated that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded. The crackdown occurs as Nigeria seeks to develop its solid minerals sector to diversify its economy away from crude oil reliance.
