EFCC Chairman Olukoyede warns youths against internet fraud

Ola Olukoyede, Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has urged Nigerian youths to pursue integrity and avoid internet fraud to ensure a secure future. Speaking at a conference organized by the Rivers State Chapter of the Organization of African Instituted Churches in Port Harcourt, Olukoyede addressed the dangers and consequences of cybercrime.

Through Deputy Superintendent James Adayilo Hosea, the EFCC chairman defined internet fraud as using digital tools to deceive others for financial gain. Specific crimes identified include romance scams, identity theft, cryptocurrency scams, fake online investments, social media impersonation, and fraudulent job offers. He warned that participants face severe consequences, including arrest, prosecution, imprisonment, and asset forfeiture.

Olukoyede attributed the rise in cybercrime to peer pressure and a desire for rapid wealth without effort. He cautioned that “success without process rarely lasts” and encouraged young people to seek righteous alternatives and utilize their unique talents rather than living through deception.
