EFCC Chairman warns of widespread public fund theft in Nigeria

Ola Olukoyede, Chairman of Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has raised alarms regarding the massive scale of public sector corruption. Speaking in Abuja, Olukoyede stated that the commission receives over 20,000 petitions annually related to public corruption. He noted that public funds are being diverted almost every minute, with some officials accumulating vast wealth, including hundreds of houses and millions of dollars, shortly after assuming office.

In a separate effort to combat financial crime, the EFCC has entered into a collaboration with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Benin Branch. The partnership aims to strengthen the fight against economic and financial crimes in Edo State by improving cooperation within the criminal justice system and enhancing the prosecution of cases in court.
